Demi was a little startled by the sudden contact, but she liked it so she gave her a hug back. wow Tess didn't have a mom, like she didn't have a brother, well Tess could still find her mom, Demi's brother was dead. Demi was really comfortable talking to Tess, it was nice to finally have someone that she could tell what had happened to her.
"I was on a date with Nathan, the modern art museum on the other side of town, I'll never go back. We were just about to the second floor, when my mom called me crying," Demi looked at the ground and held her head with her hand. "She wasn't even speaking English, I remember hearing her keep saying Daniel, over and over." Demi paused before continuing, "I just sat on the floor Nathan helped me stand up and then drove me to the hospital, I told him to leave once he dropped me at the door, and i haven't seen him since, so i guess i blew that one." Demi laughed trying to make light of the topic.
"It was a car ascendent, drunk driver hit him head on. But I'm all good now, not like i was, but pretty gosh darn good!" Demi dug through her bag and popped a piece of gum, she held out her hand "Gum?"

Tess realized how Demi was trying to make her brother's death lighter, by making a joke about some guy named Derek. Tess just guessed it was her boyfriend she never talked to ever again, and just left it at that.
She wanted to move off of the topic of death and missing-ness, so it was good Demi brought up gum. Tess delightfully declined. "Thanks for the offer. I don't really do gum. It's got synthetic sugars full of carcinogens. But feel free to. I brought a snack for myself." She reached into her bag, and pulled out some carrot sticks in a little baggie. She pulled one out, and chomped on to it. "Do you want one?" She asked.
"Oh! And that reminds me! We should probably exchange contact info!" She reached in, and plucked the notebook back out. "Do you have a phone, or an AIM?"

Demi looked at her pack of gum, synthetic sugars, carcinogens, what the hell did they teach in Maine? Demi spit her gum out and grabbed a carrot, "Thanks and i thought gum was one of those safe things."
Tess had her notebook out again, "Okay, I'm Demi Fisher, and i live at 765 NE 5th Avenue, the one on the corner. and my cell phone number is 8-9-6-37-9 42-34 . Whats yours?" Demi took out her phone to just plug Tess' information in.
This was fun, this was good, Demi was getting back out with people, starting to spend less time by herself, good, good. Now she had a friend.

"Okay," Tess said with a smile as Demi asked for her contact info. "I live at 915 Northwest Ave. Apartment 8F." She said, writing it down on a piece of notebook paper. "My cell number is 2-0-7, 9-3-4, 8-8-5-2." She recited. "It's a Maine area code." She explained.
Tess smiled, as Demi entered the number. "Oh, and my AIM is Tess_The_Mess62, and my email is Flynn.Tess@gmail.com." She continued. "Do you have an email or AIM? I'd love to get to chat!" She smiled brightly. It was nice to have a friend. A friend who wanted to be her friend as bad as she did.

Demi shook her head, "No AIM, I have an E-mail, demifish@gmail.com but i don't check it very often, I have it for school things, I'm not on the computer much, I think it interferes with your brain waves, and your eye sight, two things i really can afford to mess up."
It was true, Demi was cautious about how much time she spent on the computer, her dad had freaked her out when she was little and made her watch a movie about a computer taking over the world, and as technology got better she had less doubt that it could happen. Plus it seemed that the people who were online all the time were ready for a Zombi attack. Which Demi thought was ridiculous, a terrorist attack was much more likely to happen and she was totally read for that to happen. Part of that was thanks to her dad, he was always warning her about what to do in a real emergency, so Demi felt ready for any foreign attack big or small.
"What! its not that crazy! You didn't tack a piece of gum because of that stuff that's in it!" Demi said getting defensive.

Tess just nodded about her talking about how the computer sent out unwanted wavelengths. She knew it was untrue, but didn't want to scare Demi away with her being annoying. So, as her brother said, she kept her trap shut, and waited.
Demi clearly got her skeptical-ness, as she then jumped into how she wasn't crazy and how Tess had just denied gum because of the 'stuff' in it, or also known as the carcinogens.
"Not judging." She said, her hands raised defensively. "We all have our beliefs and we shouldn't judge each other on what we believe."

Demi exhaled and sat up straight, she pressed her lips together and nodded her head. "So, Tess, what do you like to do?"
Demi wondered what Tess did in her free time seeing as she seem to like to write and read, she couldn't only do that could she, she had to do some sort of thing that was exciting!
"Do you play any sports, or do something that is completely different, or," Demi stopped to think,
"do you go to Church?" She shrugged, "Not that i care I am Kristiete(Christian: Latvian)," her hands shot to her mouth, "shoot shoot shoot," she repeated in her head. She forgot how to say it in English, "I'm the one that celebrates Santa." she was getting nervous, her accent was coming though, "You know what scratch the religious question, pretend like i didn't ask." She smiled nervously, "I meant to say Christian, when i say it in Latvian it sounds like I am worshiping some kind of crazy thing, not that someone who does is bad, but I'm not."
Demi tightened her fists, "Erg, get it together Fish!" She mumbled. Demi looked at Tess, "I speak Latvian."
