Tess sat on a park bench in the park, watching the children running around, laughing. She had gotten the day off from work, and decided she needed to take a look around this new place that she'd call home. She reached into her bag, pulling out her phone. No new messages. Only one contact. Dad. And dad was working. She was utterly alone. She could call Gramma, but Gramma seemed busy in the garden when she left for the park. So, Tess put her phone away, and decided to watch the kids play, before realizing that she probably needed more sunscreen, or she'd fry like a fish. Tess reached back into the bag, pulling out her sunscreen, SPF 50, before reapplying it to her face. She tugged her cardigan down, even though it was a so hot out. She took a deep breath, and waited for someone if anyone would visit her.

Demi walked along the side walk, it was a super nice day. She watched the little kids playing in the grass, they were so cute. Little kids laughs were always the best.
As she walked along she looked for someone she would know, and it wasn't looking too good, she really didn't know that many people. She looked around for a 'lonely' looking person to try and befriend. For some reason that didn't always work out well for her.
She spotted a red head in the shade, bingo. She walked over to her, it was worth a shot right.
Demi plopped down next to this girl,
"Hey, I'm Demi, sup?"

Tess was just observing, before a blonde plopped down next to her, asking her what's up. She wasn't ready for social interaction. She wasn't good at social interaction! "Oh, uh, nothing much, uh, what about you?" She said awkwardly.
That was the curse she lived with everyday. She was just so damn awkward. Everything she did was different. It was always weird. It was always, in a word, awkward.
"I'm Tessa. Or really Tess. But if you want to call me Tessa, I mean, you can, but if you wanna call me Tess that's fine too, I'm just, uh." Her cheeks flushed red. "Really awkward." She said.

"I'll call you Tess," Demi smiled, "Do you go to school here?" Demi asked, hoping that she wouldn't scare the girl, she didn't always say the right thing, it was hard for her to relate to people, she had a weird life.
"I go to school here, in the fall," Demi cringed at her last sentence, of coarse the fall, everyone knows you go to school in the fall! Why was making new friends so hard, the little kids make it look so easy. They just walk up and pretty much say "lets be best friends." ha! wait till they get older.

"Well, I will be. In the fall." She said in reply. This was really awkward. Or maybe it just seemed that way to Tess. Either way, Tess sat there, before saying, "Are you a senior? Because I am, and I'm also looking for a friend!" She said with a big smile.
Tess crumbled, and put her face in her hands. "That was really weird, wasn't it? Yup. Yup, that was weird. Shouldn't have said that. Nope. No." She said. Tess scoffed, before looking back up.
"I'm new to the town, and pretty scared. I mean, I used to live in Maine. Born and raised there. But, uh, this isn't like Maine one bit. At all, in fact. I'm still trying to get used to it."
She sat with her back straight, and smiled, hoping that Demi wouldn't just get up and leave.

"I know someone who moved to Maine, I only met her once, but Maine." Demi smiled, that was fricken stupid,
"I'm repeating my Junior year, so i might be in some Senor classes, and if i keep my grades up, I might get to finish school this year, so i am working on it." Demi noticed that Tess sat up straight, so she did too.
"So, Maine is cold right." Demi showed a big smile hoping to relax Tess,

So, this girl was repeating a year. That was fine. Didn't bother Tess in the slightest. She was just happy that Demi hadn't left. "Well, that's good. Just keep working. Hard work always gives results one way or another."
She moved her feet around, on the ground, tracing different letters, before Demi spoke up, asking if maine was cold. "Yeah. Not really like this. Is it always this hot?" She said looking at Demi. "Because if it is, I'll need to go shopping, and buy a whole new wardrobe."
She scoffed. "Well, first I've gotta get a job to pay for this so called new wardrobe." She looked thoughtfully at Demi. Do you have a job?"

Demi looked at her feet, thank god she didn't ask why she was staying back. "It stays pretty warm, shorts are a must, t-shirts. there's not a lot of snow." A job? Demi hadn't thought of a Job, she knew what she wanted to do, but that she couldn't start until she finished school.
"I don't have a Job, Hey maybe we should find one together." Demi said, maybe they would become friends.

Tess smiled. "I'd like that." she said. Her and Demi were really hitting it off. She smiled. "So, shorts and tee-shirts eh? I think I can manage. I have a pair or two of shorts that I bought in Maine. Well. Clearly, I'll need more." she smiled, happy that Demi seemed to like her.
"we should totally look for jobs together!" she said with a smile. "We would be so cool! Like those teen best friends in every single movie!" Tess grabbed a notepad out of her bag, flipping to what seemed to be the last page. She retrieved a pencil and began jotting things down. "For one thing, I need a new pad."

"Do you write everything down? it looks like that one is pretty full," Demi commented. She had a notebook, and she wrote everything in it, the only person she let read it was her brother.
"So, why did you move to Florida, its real different from Maine." She had moved too but when she was really little.
"I moved here from Latvia when i was 5, i don't remember a lot. I know it is really cold there."

"No, not everything, just mostly everything. Lists on what to do in emergencies. Important numbers I might need, shopping lists, it's kinda all i could ever need." She hugged it close. "I mean, if I lost this, I don't know what I'd do."
"We moved because Dad got transferred here. He's a fireman. So, we moved." She smiled.
"Latvia, eh? That's pretty far away I hear." She smiled. "I once did a project on that country when I was in like 4th grade." She nodded her head. "I really thought it was a cool country. It has a cool history!"

"My dad is a firemen too!" Demi got excited, maybe they could be family friends! But maybe not, it was really hard for people to understand her parents, well they were getting better.
"Latvia is pretty far, but it doesn't seem that bad we used to go there a lot, we go less now because my brother's not around." Demi gulped, she mentioned her brother, damn, she was doing so well.
She got nervous, "Do you like fire?"

So, her father was a fireman as well? Maybe her dad knew her dad! Maybe they could be best friends forever! Maybe they could have pizza fridays! Maybe they could have sleepovers, and be in each other's weddings! Well, that was a bit far fetched. She knew that. But a girl could dream.
She mentioned her brother. "I have a brother too. He's a bit of a hot head. A good football player. So, there's a positive."
Tess almost choked. "Do I like fire? Well, uh, not particularly. Why do you ask?" She asked, her head tilted a little.

"Just trying to get off the topic of My brother." Demi exhaled, might as well tell her right, they are sitting here, whats the worse that could happen, she get up and walk away, they just met.
"My brother was killed last year in a car accident" Demi nodded her head nervously and took a deep breath. "He was my twin." She shook her head, "Fire gives me a rush, so do bullets, and airplanes. I'm and Action junky."
Demi smiled, "I want to join the military, it was my brothers dream, and i will do it for him, no matter what." she twirled her hair in her fingers, she totally freaked Tess out, she wasn't into that kind of stuff, she might as well get up and leave right now.

Demi had just told her that her brother had died, and Tess's face fell. "Oh my god. I'm so sorry." Tess wrapped her arms around her and squeezed tightly. "I really am. He's in a better place, though. That's what I used to tell myself when my grampa died."
"I was nine." She said, looking at her feet, before continuing. "My mom. She won the lottery, and ran to Europe. Totally left my dad, my brother, and I. We got nothing, and she's gone. Won't talk to us or anything." She looked up. "That's why we moved. Dad asked for a transfer, so we could leave with Gramma." She said.
"That's the truth. The whole truth." She said, a weak smile on her face.
